LaunchDarkly vs Flagger.gg
LaunchDarkly is the most complete feature-management platform: many SDKs, experiments, segments and rich targeting. Flagger.gg is a hosted flag service built for teams whose code is written by AI agents, with MCP and a JSON CLI as first-class ways in, scoped agent tokens and a per-run audit trail. Pick LaunchDarkly for experiments and broad SDK coverage; pick Flagger.gg when agents ship your code and you use Go or Node.

| LaunchDarkly | Flagger.gg | |
|---|---|---|
| SDKs | About 34: client-side, mobile, server-side, edge and AI (SDK list) | Go and Node; browser/React, Python and mobile In development |
| Targeting | Rules on any context attribute, and reusable segments (segments) | Admins, user ids or verified emails, workspace ids, sticky percent. Segments and attribute rules In development |
| Experiments | A/B/n tests and multi-armed bandits (Experimentation) | In development |
| Metric-guarded rollouts | Guarded rollouts watch metrics and can roll back automatically (guarded rollouts) | Kill switch and revert today; auto-rollback In development |
| Approvals and schedules | Approval workflows and scheduled changes, on select plans (approvals) | Approvals per project with an agent rollout cap; scheduled changes In development |
| MCP server | Hosted (OAuth) or local npm package (MCP docs) | Hosted at mcp.flagger.gg or flagger mcp; 11 tools shown by token scope; no approve tool |
| Agent identity | API access tokens; OAuth sign-in for the hosted MCP server | Agent tokens per agent: one project, chosen environments and actions, 90-day expiry; a note required on every write; run recorded |

Where LaunchDarkly is stronger
- Breadth. SDKs for nearly every platform, including browsers and mobile, which Flagger.gg doesn't have yet.
- Experimentation and metrics. Built-in experiments and guarded rollouts that react to metrics.
- Targeting. Rules on any attribute you send, and segments you define once and reuse.
- Maturity. A long-established platform with enterprise workflows such as scheduled changes and approvals.
Where Flagger.gg fits better
- Agents ship your code. Each agent gets its own scoped token; MCP tools appear only when the token allows them; every agent write needs a note and records its run; agents can't approve.
- Auto-live or approvals. Let agents' changes apply at once, or let them roll out to a cap (10% by default) and ask a person for anything wider.
- A JSON CLI. Agents that run shell commands get one JSON object per command and meaningful exit codes.
- A small surface. Five states, local evaluation, unknown means off, and a Release console that lists what isn't live yet first.
Flagger.gg isn't the Flux/CNCF Flagger, a Kubernetes operator; it's the hosted flag service at flagger.gg.
FAQ
What's a good LaunchDarkly alternative for a startup?
It depends on what you use. If AI agents write much of your code and you're on Go or Node, Flagger.gg is built for that. If you need experiments, browser or mobile SDKs, or self-hosting, look at LaunchDarkly itself or the open-source tools in this comparison.
Does LaunchDarkly have an MCP server?
Yes, hosted with OAuth or as a local npm package, per its docs. Flagger.gg's MCP server is hosted at mcp.flagger.gg or runs as flagger mcp, with tools scoped by agent token.
Can I move from LaunchDarkly to Flagger.gg?
Flagger.gg imports flags and their history from JSON with flagger import, and its SDKs have a shadow mode that compares answers with your current system before you switch. Mapping LaunchDarkly's targeting onto Flagger.gg's five states is a manual step.
Does Flagger.gg do experiments?
Not yet. Experiments are in development.
